If you own property, it is likely that at some time you will need to hire a plumber. Typically people give no thought to this until there is an emergency situation – then they rush out and get the first plumber they can find, often making a big mistake in the process.
Besides the obvious things, like having a good reputation and all the correct equipment, there are a few things people don’t always consider when choosing a plumber. Here are two of them:
Management
Ideally the business should be managed by one or more master plumbers with plenty of practical experience and that have a hands-on approach. The business is only as good as the people that run it.
Insurance
Make sure that the plumbing company you are considering using has sufficient insurance to protect them and you from potential claims. Usually this means they will carry two types of insurance. The first type is called Contractors General Liability insurance and covers areas like accidental damage to your property during plumbing work. The second type of insurance that is important is workers’ compensation insurance. Sadly some companies do not carry this type of insurance, but it is very important. You need to know that if one of the plumbers is injured while working at your property that they are covered. Not only is not being covered tragic for the employee, but something many people do not realize is that in the absence of workers’ compensation insurance, you as the property owner could face a lawsuit if someone is injured while working on your property.
